Supporting LGBTQ+ Community

The LGBTQ+ community is a vibrant and diverse community of individuals from all walks of life, and it deserves all the support and love that it can get. In a world that is often hostile and unwelcoming to individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, it can be difficult to find acceptance and understanding. This is why it is so important to show our support for LGTBQ+ community in whatever way possible.

This June, Rainford Hall are doing their part to show their solidarity by flying the Pride flag across the hall, and are encouraging all employees to support this. This is just a small way to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride month is a time to celebrate and honour the LGBTQ+ community and the many incredible contributions they have made to our world. The month of Pride has been designed to:

  • Recognise the strength and courage of the LGBTQ+ community and to remember the struggles they have faced throughout history
  • Celebrate the beauty of diversity and embrace those who are different from us
  • To show our support and appreciation for all members of the LGBTQ+ community
  • Recognise the strength and resilience of the community and thank them for their courage to be true to themselves and to stand up for their rights
  • Recognise that all people have the right to love, be loved, and be accepted regardless of their sexuality or gender identity
  • A time to come together as a community and celebrate the unique and wonderful individuals that make up the LGBTQ+ community
  • To celebrate the progress that has been made in LGBTQ+ rights, and to continue to fight for a world where everyone is accepted and respected

Why Pride is in the month of June

Pride has been celebrated in June since the late 1970s, when the first Gay Pride marches began. The month of June is symbolic for the LGBTQ+ community because it is the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a series of demonstrations that occurred in 1969 in response to a police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City. The Stonewall Riots were a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, and have since been credited for launching the modern-day LGBTQ+ rights movement.

June is a time for the LGBTQ+ community to come together and celebrate their identities and accomplishments, and to advocate for further progress in the fight for equality. Pride is a reminder that the LGBTQ+ community has a long history of fighting for our rights and that, despite the progress that has been made, there is still much work to be done in order to achieve true equality.
